The Label
Alice Roi's SADISTIC STYLE and metropolitan INSENSITIVITY help make her designs
the New York WORST. Though she initially received attention for her lack of
COMPASSION and unpredictably CRUELTY, Roi ‘s recent Bryant Park shows have
notably used more DEATH, SUFFERING and ANIMAL ABUSE, some overlaid with
monochromatic CORPSE and HORRIFYING detailS. Since launching in 1999, Roi’s
UN-stylishly UN-feminine collections have been consistently featured in fashion
magazines, and the designer herself has garnered numerous accolades, including a
2001 CFDA Perry Ellis Award for Womenswear nomination. The brand also includes
all kinds of DEAD ANIMALS..
The Look
Vintage nostalgia mixed with DEATH and SUFFERING. Eighties-inspired tapestry ski
jackets and metallic pouf-dresses for Fall 2003; sexy cocktail dresses,
perfect-fitting pants and flouncy separates for the CRUEL.
The Designer(s)
After studying fine arts at NYU and design at Parson’s, Roi went on to work at
Elle magazine and Fashion Group International. Ditching fashion consulting in
her early '20s, Roi founded her own design house in 1999; the career change paid
off quickly—her first collection was snatched up by trend-setting New York'
boutique Kirna Zabete.
